who uses the informal education homepage?

We know how many people use our pages, where they come from and how long they spend with us. However, just who they are is something of a mystery.

At the moment the page gets around 3 million unique visitors a year. Over the last 12 months visitors come from over 222 countries/territories (Source: Google Analytics).

The pattern of usage from different countries alters over the year. For example, the numbers drop when there are vacations or when universities are less full. Below we have averaged out these variation and list our top 20:

From the e-mails we get the main users fall seem to fall into four camps:

• students involved in degree programmes and professional training programmes in teaching, youth work, community work, adult education and community education.

• academics and professionals engaged in the development of new informal/non-formal education initiatives e.g. in higher education, community education, libraries and museums - especially in north America, Australia and Europe.

• practitioners working in youth work, lifelong learning and community development.

• people following up aspects of local or family history, or particular enthusiams.
